Our story
Groth & Sons have been manufacturing library ladders for almost thirty years and whether you choose a hook-on system or a Sliding Library Ladder, you can be assured that each item is meticulously crafted in sustainably grown hardwoods, hand finished and stained to suit your project requirements.
Groth & Sons timber ladders are Custom made, and hand finished to order, then they are shipped Australia wide.
The Oxford
This elegantly Tapered ladder draws inspiration from the Bodleian library in the English University City.
This is our traditional hook-on library ladder, it has no mechanical fixings and comes supplied with all necessary rails and fittings. The choice of hardware materials includes brushed stainless steel, polished brass, satin brass, and aged brass.
All brackets and hardware are locally manufactured, and hand assembled. Fixing instructions included.
The Cambridge
As with the University towns, The Oxford's arch rival is the Cambridge, a straight, and slightly more conservative version of its Scholarly counterpart. The Cambridge comes in a variety of timbers as well as the Groth & Sons hook-on hardware collection. All Groth & Sons timber ladders, can be stored upright when not in use to free up floorspace.
The Sandhurst
Brass pinstripe inlays inspired by The Royal Military Academy, of the same name. Polished brass inlay representative Regimental piping adds a hint of Regalia to this library accessory.
Available in a variety of timbers and finishes, and complemented by Our polished brass rails and hardware. A ladder ready for a full Military dress inspection.
The saville row
This beautiful Walnut timber ladder with contrasting inlaid pinstripes is reminiscent of the sharp suits of this famous London Street. The Saville Row offers a dash of Sartorial elegance for the style savvy Book collector, or indeed, any dedicated follower of fashion.

The Imperial
Derived from the Imperial College London, this science based institution gives its name to a cranked version of the Cambridge. A straight ladder with the ability to reach higher shelving without taking up a much larger footprint than the Oxford or Cambridge. It Can be designed with an additional bookshelf and offered in various timbers and finishes.
The Bookworm
This rolling ladder, not exclusive to residential libraries, can be used to effortlessly glide across the façade of a walk-in robe or fitted kitchen, and all those hard-to-get-to areas. It comes standard with the renowned Quiet Glide hardware, manufactured in American for a range of applications. As well as being entirely practical, the Bookworm is a very attractive library accessory.
The Professor
This larger scaled rolling ladder measures 500mm wide. It offers the extra large step supports and is equipped with a pair of hand rails for ease of climb, and additional safety during use.
The Professor also has the option of a bookshelf for organising your book selection before your descent. This is the ladder for the most discerning Scholar or bibliophile.
THE LE MANS
The latest design addition to the bespoke ladder collection is the ‘Le Mans’ – inspired by the ultimate endurance car race, were in 1951 ‘Le Mans’ or ‘Rally
stripes’ were added to race cars to identify them. Made to order in stained European beech with aluminum pinstripes, now you can have a library ladder that stands out from the crowd.....Image to follow.
